For Parents

For Parents

We provide high quality. comprehensive assessment, treatment and developmental screening to help you and your child with their difficulties.

Every child is unique and treated as such. Our aim is to help them reach their potential through fun and children centred activities. Increasing their confidence and self belief in what they are able to achieve.

Our physiotherapy services cover a wide range of developmental disorders such as neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy

Conditions We Treat

Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy can cover any amount of damage to any part of the brain or brain stem; this means symptoms and treatment vary dramatically depending on the individual.

Our main aim when treating those with cerebral palsy or any other congenital/genetic neurological disorder is to help our clients to be as mobile and independent as possible.

We can provide advice and support on managing the effects of the condition. This will include encouraging you to become involved in your own development. We will continue to identify goals that together we will work towards. These goals might relate to gaining mobility or getting involved in leisure activities or sports.

We offer a professional, flexible service that begins with an initial assessment at home. We will then work on a tailored programme that has clearly identifiable goals. We will constantly review these goals to make sure you reach your full potential.

We work closely with all other treating practitioners and medical professionals so you can be sure of the best possible care.

Sensory Processing

Sensory processing disorder is a condition in which the brain has trouble receiving and responding to information that comes in through the senses.

Formerly referred to as sensory integration dysfunction, it is not currently recognized as a distinct medical diagnosis.

Some people with sensory processing disorders are oversensitive to things in their environment. Common sounds may be painful or overwhelming. The light touch of a shirt may chafe the skin.

Others with sensory processing disorder may:

Be uncoordinated

Bump into things

Be unable to tell where their limbs are in space

Be hard to engage in conversation or play

Sensory processing problems are usually identified in children. But they can also affect adults. Sensory processing problems are commonly seen in developmental conditions like autism spectrum disorder.

Traumatic Brain Injury

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a complex injury with a broad spectrum of symptoms and disabilities

TBI is an injury to the brain caused by a trauma to the head. There are many possible causes, including road traffic accidents, assaults, falls and accidents at home. Symptoms of TBI can be wide-ranging, from physical effects such as balance problems, headaches and dizziness to cognitive, emotional and behavioural effects such as memory problems and anger.

We work in partnership with you and your family/carers to help the brain learn alternative ways of working in order to minimise the long-term impact of the brain injury and help our client and their family to cope successfully with any remaining disabilities.

Treatment will differ greatly depending on the nature of the damage to the brain or possibly damage to the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) in some cases this can include damage to the rest of the body.

Spinal and Nerve Injuries

Spinal cord injury or peripheral nerve injury

Damage to the spinal cord or a peripheral nerve can mean changes in its function, either temporarily or permanently. These changes include loss of muscle function, sensation, or autonomic function in parts of the body served by the spinal cord.

We understand how to best treat nerve injuries. Many clients experience changes in sensation or develop pain as a result of the condition.

We work in partnership with our clients and their families/carers. We regularly assess on an ongoing basis to ensure you are reaching your full potential.

The physiotherapist will assist the recovery, making sure it is moving at the right pace.

Treatments will vary greatly depending on the type of injury but could include balance re-education, muscle strengthening and cardiovascular exercise, gait training and function recovery.
